Practice the basics of self-regulation to help calm the child’s nervous system. Continue practicing the technique throughout upcoming sessions for better integration.

Teach the child the cookie breathing method (diaphragmic breathing). Inhale through the nose to “smell” the cookies and exhale through the mouth to “cool off” the cookies.
